VIDEO SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS

Stay in control, even when you are away.

Monitor your site from one place with live viewing, reliable recording and video analytics.

Camera options and where they are used

Megapixels are only one part of camera selection. Viewing distance, lens angle, night lighting, backlight, outdoor conditions and the detail required in recordings are assessed together.

Fixed cameras provide continuous coverage of entrances, corridors, warehouse interiors and building perimeters. PTZ and Speed Dome cameras are used where a large site needs changes of direction and optical zoom.

Number plate cameras are positioned around vehicle speed, approach angle, distance and headlights. An ordinary camera cannot provide readable plates in every situation.

Low-light or infrared-assisted cameras can be used in dim areas. Thermal cameras may be considered for long, dark perimeter routes where the application calls for them.

Recording and remote viewing

We position cameras during the site survey. After checking entrances, loading areas, warehouse interiors, the perimeter and blind spots, we plan cable routes and the recording centre.

Nearby cameras connect through Cat6 and PoE switches; distant points use fiber where needed. Retention is calculated from camera count, resolution, frame rate, compression and activity on site.

Local NVR recording continues during an internet outage as long as power and the internal network remain available. Authorised users can view live and recorded footage on a phone or computer when a connection is available.

At handover, we test day and night images, recorded playback and user permissions. We show operators how to find recordings and export footage.

Estimated space: 30 days of continuous recording at 2-4, 4-8 or 8-16 Mbps for 2, 4 or 8 MP. Actual requirements depend on equipment settings and scene activity.

Video analytics

A camera system can do more than record images. Intrusion detection, line crossing and person/vehicle classification can assess movement in a defined area and alert an operator.

Number plate recognition, people counting and advanced search are not required on every project. We identify the useful applications during the survey, then select suitable cameras, recorders and software.

People counting and customer traffic

Entry and exit volumes can be reviewed by hour. These figures can support store comparisons, identification of busy periods and staffing decisions.

Number plate recognition

Plate, date and time can be recorded at entrances and exits. Registered vehicles can also work with compatible barrier or gate automation where required.

Questions about camera systems

Common questions about planning, recording and remote viewing.

How many cameras does a facility need?

Floor area alone does not determine camera count. Entrances, exits, critical work points, blind spots, viewing distance, lighting and the detail required are assessed on site. The layout is prepared after this review.

How is camera recording retention calculated?

Retention depends on camera count, resolution, frame rate, compression, continuous or event-based recording, and disk capacity. Once the required number of days is agreed, the recording infrastructure is sized accordingly.

Does recording continue if the internet fails?

In a correctly configured system using a local NVR or recording server, an internet outage does not stop on-site recording. Remote viewing and notifications may be affected; access resumes when the connection returns.

Can cameras be viewed from a phone or computer?

Yes. With a suitable network and secure remote access configuration, authorised users can access live and recorded footage on a phone or computer. Permissions can be restricted to suit the facility's operating arrangements.

Can an existing camera system be upgraded?

Existing cameras, cabling, networking and recorders can usually be assessed for compatibility. Usable components can be retained while blind spots are addressed, recording capacity is increased or suitable analytics are added.

Is an ordinary camera sufficient for reading number plates?

Not always. Vehicle speed, camera angle, distance, night lighting and headlights all affect readability. A camera designed for number plate capture is used where the application requires it.
